Reading Murielle's Angel was most moving and I was swept away with your words and completely immersed in your story. What a wonderful gift you have of writing so eloquently providing a visual picture your own mural of words just like Murielle's Mural. With every word you wrote I felt a part of your camino as if I was walking with you. The sights, sounds, emotions the overall atmosphere of your experience filled me with anticipation to keep on reading.
I have myself walked it and have read many books about it, but this is the first work of fiction I have read that is set on the Camino de Santiago.
I enjoyed the novel - the story about a very English Rosemary who grew up in a 'parish where they went to mass week after week without ever getting to know anyone' and the whole new world of intriguing strangers she meets after she decides (for no good reason) to undertake the 500 mile long trek along the Camino. There is angry young Stefan, the courteous Jose Luis, the world-wise Dominique and of course the enigmatic Murielle. For those who have themselves walked the Way, Mary Howell's story will bring back fond memories of the church at Eunate, the hostel at Santo Domingo, the metal bridge at Ponferrada - as well as bunk beds in albergues and pilgrim meals in establishments 'run by entrepreneurs that cater to dreamers'..
I can recommend Murielle's Angel. Read it - and you too may, like Rosemary, be able to see the world anew.
